Facebook Giveaway Winner!

It has been a few weeks since I have posted! So I wanted to share what has been going on in the world of The Cupcake Swirl!

I created a facebook page for TCS and it has been fun seeing people's reactions to what I'm doing and the pictures I post of my cakes & cupcakes! I held a giveaway to gain more followers and the winner won a dozen cupcakes and a TCS tumbler made special by a friend of mine over at "The Wright Cut" (check her out on facebook!! -super cute & personalized stuff!) I got 2 of those! 1 for my winner and 1 for, well, ME! :o) SUCH a great marketing tool, I think! I took it with me to the grocery store the other day and I got a couple of double takes while I was sipping out of my cup-no takers time I will be armed with business cards to hand out! ;o) Anyhow!! My winner was actually a friend of mine-she sent over a lot of her friends to "like" my FB page(-which equals to more followers...are you getting what the giveaway was? haha sorry for not explaining) She requested a cupcake with coconut in it somehow! I just made a vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting and rolled in coconut! They were gorgeous & "DELICIOUS!" :o) My cup over-floweth. Love when I make my customers happy-EVEN if their cupcakes were FREE! I will be sending her the tumbler ASAP! I just got them in the mail and they are SUPER cute! is a picture of the cupcakes!
Aren't they so cute?? I did a J for her last name! I thought that was a nice touch. (the decorations were my decision-the winner was only able to pick the flavor.) I wish I would have had one-they looked so yummy! I love the texture the coconut gave them-can you see it underneath the topper? I think it is just too cute! haha anyways! she was pleased with them and that makes me happy!

I am in the process of making a Dora Birthday Cake and in January I have a Shrek cake I am doing! :o) It's going to be fun!!

Happy Birthday Marianna!

So, this whole entire blog should just be dedicated to Marianna and her family because yet again, another cake for the Blackburn's! :o) and I LOVE it! I love Marianna so much-she really is such a God-send. I have mentioned how close friends we have become in less than a year and I really can not say enough about how grateful I am for her. I am always happy baking cakes-but this one was just a little extra special! I LOVE this cake! Marianna's birthday was last Friday, September 9th and I had the pleasure of meeting another family member who flew into town to surprise Marianna for her birthday! I just LOVE surprises! This cake was one of those!
This is Marianna with her cake. The only picture I have of the cake! (I really need to get another camera! This was taken by Marianna's phone.) Anyway-I covered this cake in fondant (!!!!) I really LOVE doing that! The decorations are made with fondant as well! She LOVED it! Once again, a SMILE on my face---> :o) SO dig in M! and Happy Birthday! Love ya girl!!

I hope you guys love this cake as much as she did!! (too bad you can't TASTE it!) ;o)

Happy Baking!

Reagan turns 3! (way past due)

Sweet Home Alabama! It was SO nice to be home for 2 weeks during my husband's block leave last month! We were home just in time for our daughter's birthday! All of the cake decorating was at my aunt's house! That was nice to just be able to say "HEY! WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS??" instead of texting/calling her! haha Reagan's birthday cake turned out really pretty! I was well pleased with it and for my very first time covering a cake in fondant-it was magical! :o) soo once again, without further ado, here is Reagan's 3rd Birthday cake!!

The painting is one of mine-painted it for my aunt's home.

The Final Cake-We put her name in before the party started.
I learned a lot of new fun things decorating this cake! I LOVED being home and seeing all my friends and family get to enjoy it! There are no words to describe the satisfaction I feel when people light up at the sight...and taste of my cakes! Job.Well.Done.

Happy Baking!! :o)

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Serves: 12
*Mine only made 10-- 2 more would've been detrimental to my waist line I am trying to demolish! Maybe I shouldn't have made CHOCOLATE CHIP muffins? ;o)*

Preheat Oven: 400 degrees F.

2 C all-purpose flour
1/2 C granulated sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 C milk
1/3 C vegetable oil
1 egg
3/4 C mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 tbsp. granulated sugar
2 tbsp brown sugar

1. Line your muffin pan with paper liners. (or you can grease the pan, but paper liners = EASY clean-up!)
2. In a medium bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients; mix well.  In a small bowl, combine the wet ingredients; blend well. (Use whisk to break up egg) Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix well. Batter will be lumpy. (mine was kind of thick as well.)
3. Fill muffin cups 2/3 full. I used an ice cream scoop the kind with the lever thingy to scoop out whats in it. (I know, very technical, but I'm pretty confident you know what I mean! If's a link to what I mean...Ice cream scoops are A-MAZING when it comes to baking muffins, cookies, and anything else you scoop out of a bowl and dump on a baking sheet. Makes sure each muffin/cupcake/cookie is of equal size!)
4. Sprinkle tops of batter with a combination of the 3 tbsp of granulated sugar and 2 tbsp. of brown sugar. Be GENEROUS :o) This makes the muffins extra special :o)
5. Bake 20-25 minutes until inserted toothpick comes out clean! (Took mine about 23 minutes roughly.)

ENJOY! These are DELISH! Thank you ALLRECIPES.COM for our yummy breakfast today!

A Very GIR Birthday!

So I'm really loving this thing I got going! Baking/decorating cakes is a BLAST! Not 5 minutes after I posted my last cake (See previous post) on Facebook I got a call from a friend asking if I would make her daughter's 14th birthday cake! ... by SATURDAY! :o) This was a last minute call but I would never turn someone down! It was my first challenge. She wanted a cartoon character named "Gir" on it from Invaders Zim. Have you heard of it? Me neither. haha. But Gir is Emily's favorite! Soo I was happy to accept! I instantly googled to see what he looked like-I also recognized the cartoon once I got a look, just never knew what it was called. Emily's mom also sent me picture of the cake she actually wanted.
I really wish I could've done this exact cake for her- but with such short notice and little prep time there was no way. But I think I definitely could replicate this cake! I REALLLY wish I could take credit for this awesome cake! But unfortunately, I can't. But isn't it AWESOME! This lady can be credited for it! She did a GREAAAT job! So, we decided to downsize this guy and lay him on top of 2-10" rounds to make a 1 tier birthday cake for Emily! I omitted the pig and the rolled up burritos (kinda wish I would've done the pig-He's SO cute!) Emily's mom requested 1 layer Red Velvet (my fave! and Emily's too!) and 1 layer Chocolate (EVEN BETTER!) and in between those layers, you ask? Well, my friends....CHOCOLATE GANACHE! HELLO! YUUUM!! I wish I could've had a slice of THAT cake! (I did, however, have extra batter and made cupcakes for us to eat. Will definitely have to whip up some more ganache-too easy!) A little set back with the ganache-I built my "dam" to hold the ganache in place in between the layers too close to the edge and it oozed out a little...(Thank God the cake was kind of blended in with the buttercream!) uhhh..My mouth is drooling thinking about the chocolate ganache! So without further ado-Here it is! Emily's Very GIR Birthday Cake!
I used the cake she really wanted as a template. This little guy is made of rice krispy treats covered in gum paste. It was no where near perfect, but Emily and her mom LOVED it! :o) And that is MOST important! I am proud that I tackled this cake and did it in a day and a half! Happy Birthday Emily! It was DEFINITELY a pleasure!

Emily with her cake. She looks happy to me!

"A Sweet Southern LADY"

I had to take Nanny's cake over a day before her birthday and while sneaking it around the back, I got to meet this sweet grandmother! If you look back at the Atlanta Braves Cake post for Joe-This sweet lady is Joe's wife's (Marianna) grandmother! Marianna and I have become great friends so I was so pleased to be able to meet her Nanny! She has gone through a rough time these past few months. She just recently lost her husband-I regret not ever being able to meet him. But knowing Marianna, and her mom, and now Nanny-I am POSITIVE he was a TREMENDOUS man! So meeting Nanny was EXTRA special! She was the sweetest!
This past week Marianna's mom, Nanny, & (SURPRISE!) her sister came to visit and help set up their new home! They have worked SOO hard on that house and it REALLY shows! Marianna & Joe's home looks FABULOUS! Yesterday they gave Nanny her cake, although I was not there to see her reaction, Marianna said, "Nanny absolutely LOVED it!" I was soo pleased to hear that!
This is DEFINITELY my favorite cake so far in this extremely FUN journey! So glad such a sweet family got to enjoy it! :o)

Now on to an Invaders Zim birthday cake!!! Topped with a happy and full of tacos "Gir"!!

Happy Baking!

Nanny's Sneak Peek!

Happy Birthday Nanny!
My friend's mom asked me to do a cake for her mom (Nanny) and, of COURSE, I said YES!! :o) This one was pretty easy.... although I had to learn how to make a fondant/gum paste bow, which was WAY easier than I thought it was going to be! I was wanting to learn-SO GLAD I DID! It turned out reallllly cute! She only wanted 1 tier-not many people to enjoy it so it didn't have to be over the top. Pink! with scroll work and, of course, the BOW! :o) They wanted me to put "Nanny" on it as well. I definitely did not want to just pipe her name on top of the cake like a traditional one would be...soo I did something else. I think you will love it and I think Nanny will LOVE it as well!'s a SNEAK PEEK! I'll post the big reveal once Nanny sees it! SO.EXCITED.

Just WAIT 'til you see the big (just sayin...) ;o) I am pretty proud of this one. Definitely my FAVE so far!
